NINE LIVES

writer/director Siri Rødnes

Based on the 1969 Nebula Award nominated novella by celebrated author Ursula K. Le Guin, Nine Lives is the story of humankind coming into contact with its own future. Part sweeping Science Fiction of an ill-fated mining operation on a distant moon, part intimate portrait of friendship; it is a bold and subversive film about discovering what it is to be human in a remote and lonely corner of the universe.

Set within our children’s lifetime, it is a poignant character-driven exploration of how we live now; how we treat “others”; the polarising effects of new technology on society and the individual; as well as a timeless and hopeful story of humanity’s endless ability to adapt.

Scottish writer/director Siri Rødnes is in post on her first feature Follow Me, a Psychological Thriller starring Connie Nielsen. An NFTS Directing graduate, Siri's short films include the BAFTA Scotland and Berlinale Crystal Bear nominated Take Your Partners.

THE JOY

writer/director Simon Ward

After the failed 1916 Easter Rising, Ireland is aggressively purged of all dissent by Britain’s occupying colonial forces. Radicalised by the violence, fear and oppression enveloping her young world, seventeen-year-old Maggie enlists in Cumann na mBan, a uniquely all-female revolutionary paramilitary. She finds strength and purpose fighting through both the War of Independence and subsequent bloody Civil War. As a soldier, she fights for a united Ireland. As a woman, she fights for a place to belong in a new Ireland. Through war and imprisonment, bereavement and motherhood, Maggie fights to become; to find and assert her identity. To render herself fully visible as a human being.

By 1950, Ireland has achieved the political freedom from Britain which Maggie fought for. But the country has largely forgotten the sacrifices of women like her in delivering this. Ensnared by the ghosts of her past, Maggie finds herself, alone, adrift and estranged from the world around her. Maggie must once again fight for a place to belong.

Born and raised in Dublin, writer/director Simon Ward has had a number of his feature scripts under option and directed 5 short films to date. He is also programmed cinemas for the ICA and Independent Cinema Office where he remains a Trustee.

THE END OF HISTORY

writer/director Tupaq Felber

A man disappears, maybe it was the newborn baby which finally broke him, maybe it was his colleague's suicide. His brother and close friends embark across the country to bring him back, only to find he might be running away from something even more lethal than parental responsibility. Why only one of them will survive being murdered this weekend might not be clear, but isn't that true of most things these days?

Commercial and award-winning short film director Tupaq Felber's debut feature TIDES was selected for BFI London Film Festival and released in the UK by AX1 Entertainment.

Confirmed Cast: Paul Kaye

Co-producer: Jesse Romain
